I am riding 275 miles across 3 states towards 1 destination: the end of HIV/AIDS.
Last year while wandering around all the vendors and exhibitors during New Jersey Pride Weekend in Asbury Park, I got a chance to walk through an exhibit tent with the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. I saw so many photos of individuals, letters written to and from, and other personal items. By the time I exited the tent I was overcome with emotion, and I cried with a close friend outside. I didn't cry because I've lost so many close friends - others have lost so many more. I cried because I know we have lost so many great individuals; friends, lovers, mentors, mothers and fathers, and because I could feel that loss in the depth of my soul. I'm riding out of respect and honor to the memory of all these great people we're not fortunate to have around anymore.
Looking ahead though, I'm riding because I will get the chance to take part in something so powerful and special. We still haven't conquered HIV/AIDS. It's still here, and it's still devastating. I look forward to the challenge of this ride - to ride with others of great integrity and spirit, in a fight to end HIV/AIDS.
Your donation will go far to help the LGBT Center in New York, an organization that is doing such a great job in serving those living with HIV/AIDS.
Thank you,
