Anyone who knows me knows how much I enjoy long rides on my bike. From the time I was a kid, I have been passionate about cycling. Historically, I have just done it for the love of the sport. This year, however, I have an opportunity to turn my own selfish pleasure into a more noble pursuit. A large part of the appeal to me for doing this ride is the multiple benefits it provides. Not only does Braking the Cycle raise funds to help those already in need, but the ride itself raises awareness of the AIDS epidemic in each of those with whom we come into contact along our 275 mile route. From years of watching the Tour de France I am keenly aware of the impact a large group of dedicated riders has on the surrounding countryside! So if even one kid gets his eyes opened by our presence, then the sacrifice of my own hamstrings was well worth the price to help "break the cycle" of HIV infection. I am very excited to be able to use an activity which makes me feel good to actually do good. And I hope my excitement moves you to join me in some vicarious way.
